They will be working with 6 trucks and 2 diggers for at least 1 month to do the job, which was last done 1 yr ago!

Wandered around Tweed heads/Cooly beaches again – so nice!
Sun 7/11/10 – Tweed Heads Sth - 24oC – overnight showers, cleared and hot n sunny by 9am
We drove upto a very busy Burleigh Heads for a walk to find that the Coolongatta Gold Surf ironman event was on. It was a 4.5hr winning time – canoe from Surfers to Coolongatta, then run, swim, wave paddle board their way back to Surfers. All the while surfers, walks etc were doing their thing and getting in the way. Spent quite a bit of time at the inlet just Sth of Burleigh Heads watching the nippers do their thing and basking in the sun and beautifully clear water.
We did a quick supermarket shop on the way back to the Van for a 2pm lunch. I watched cricket in avo – SL v Aus ODI # 3
Mon 8/11/10 – Brunswick Heads – 26oC – sunny and quite hot after the clouds burnt off.
Massey Greene campground - $30/night for 1 plot back from the harbour channel views.
Left our 10 day stay at the Sth Tweed Heads caravan park (Boyd’s) and went down to Brunswick Heads via Cudgen, Hastings Point, Ocean Shores and Brunswick by lunchtime. We wandered around town and the harbour breakwater before deciding on the Massey Greene campground. We had a relaxing afternoon and did a longer walk along the surf beach before Zacc came out to buy the car. It took about 3 hrs for his mechanic mate to look it over and to make up his mind and get his car to his work lockup for overnight storage. There goes my afternoon swim! We got the bank cheque + $250 cash = $3,750. Karen was very sad to see the car go. We spent some time listening and then chatting to Alan, a country n western singer/song-writer. I had a much longer sleep tonight, as last night was only about 6 hrs due to late bed and early rise.
Tue 9/11/10 – Brunswick Heads – 26oC - $30 + 50Mb/3 hrs free wi-fi
We slept in as it was raining and then paid for another night before going to the bank to pay in the SX Bank cheque for the car.
We got caught in the showers, so hung around town till lunchtime. Had cheese/avo/marmite sandwiches for lunch + coffee.
Did some more reading, sleeping and then spent a fair bit of the arvo with Alan Jones (Country singer from Gympie) walking along the beach and had a couple of shandies at the local bar, before chatting some more back at the van.
We spent some time looking ahead on the trip + caught on emails etc.
Wed 10/11/10 – Evan’s Head – 26oC, but ~ 23 for most of the day with strong E wind - $27/night
Chatted some more with Alan and used some more free wi-fi before leaving at 9am. We drove the 16km to Byron Bay, where we wandered along the beach and thru town. Very busy and grid-locked. We weren’t really enjoying the vibe!!!!
We drove on to the lighthouse and parked on the down road. We had some quick lunch and we did the lighthouse loop walk and saw some dolphins surfing and jumping out of the surf - awesome! The weather was pretty scatty, but quite warm when not raining. We walked right down to the most Easterly headland and along the coast toward the township.
The rain-forest on the hills were 1st class.
We drove slowly around Lennox Head (very nice dark lake + surf beach) and quite quickly thru Ballina with its very large river/harbour. We stopped for our 1st petrol fill-up and on to Evan’s Head where we spent the late arvo walking up the river and shops incl a gin shop and back down to the beach for 1hr walk along the beach. The weather was now blue sky, but 20 knot winds. The beach was very flat to walk along and incredibly beautiful in a rustic kind of way.
We spoke to Mark Everett (Giant NSW farmer from Borneo trip) and he gave us some tips on places to go to around the area and spoke about going to Warumbungles the following few days.
Thu 11/11/10 – Evan’s Head – 26oC, but ~ 23 after it clouded over
Lovely morning – calm and clear. We went for an early lap around 9am along the river and paid for another day at the caravan park. Karen did a clothes wash and we both cleaned the inside and outside of the van.
We had an early lunch and were about to go for a walk when the showers started – nothing big, but thundery looking.
We did some reading, internet tasks and I went for a couple of walks along the river and harbour groin.
Fri 12/11/10 – Wooli (Yuraygir Nat Park Coastal Walk – 65km in all) – Mostly sunny & windy - $20/night powered!!!
Got up by 7:30 to a beautiful day and went for a beach/river walk. The tide was coming in fast....
We left around 9:20am as the clouds were thickening up and drove the 94km to Grafton via Yamba (50km rtn) incl an extra leg out to Angourie Bay – lovely rugged, rocky + sandy ocean beach.
We went onto Grafton and stopped in the Govt building part of town (Victoria St) and Karen went to the RTA & I went to the NPWS to get a NSW “country pass“ for $45. I bought a $12 pair of sandals at Target and we did a quick shop at Woolies.
Drove out to Wooli (end of the road and peninsula) and had a walk + swim in the river. It was quite nice. The beach was wild but beautiful. The wind was strong on the ocean side and calm on the inland side. We had a shower there and drove back to Wooli where we stayed at the quirky little town’s caravan park.
Sat 13/11/10 – Gibraltor Nat Park Campground - $20 – 23oC sunny mornihg on coast/sunny-cloudy at Washpool
We spent the morning at the Bare Pt and Minnie Water sections of Yuraygar Nat Park on the coast 55km ESE of Grafton.
The Bare Pt section was rugged rocky/sandy beaches and the Minnie Water section was absolutely lovely sandy/rocky headland sections of coast. We could have stayed here 1 more day no problem at all !!!
We walked several km along the coastal cliff trails from headland to headland and then back along the beach/rocky headlands. We saw a head turtle in the surf zone. It was a really lovely clear/calm morning.
We drove back to Grafton and got 119.9c diesel (8c Woolworths fuel discount).
It was an 80km trip to Washpool Nat Park where we had lunch and then walked along the river watcfhing out for leaches. We saw several on us, but none got blood. A very pretty park esp the rockby/cascading river .
Onto Gilbraltar Nat Park where we went for a late day walk up to Anvil Rock past some flowering Waratah plants.
Got to campground b4 dark and I watched the NZ v AUS rugby league 4 nations final – NZ won in the last minute!
Sun 14/11/10 – Mark Everett’s (Borneo trip) place at Warialda Bridge (130km West of Glenn Innes)
Did an 8am walk to Cascades Rover walk. It was a little disappointing.... We went on to a nice waterfall west of Gibraltar
Then a shop at Glenn Innes + a quick sandwich stop for lunch and onto Mark’s place mid-afternoon. Mark met us at Warialda on his Kawasaki Cruiser and led us to his farm. We chatted away the arvo.
Mon 15/11/10 – Mark Everett’s place at Warialda Bridge – 22oC overcast/showers at night
Hung out at Marks place and did a lap of his property and met his Dad at his farm.
Tue 16/11/10 – Mark Everett’s place at Warialda Bridge - 22oC overcast/showers at night
Rained most of the night.
Hung out at Marks place and did some fence post digging for a gate.
Rained started at sunset....
Wed 17/11/10 – Mt Kaputar Nat Park (40km E of Narrabrai - $10 incl hot water + power in toilet block. 26oC sun/cloud
Left Mark’s at 11am and drove to Bingara and had a look around the river area and drove to the lookout and enjoyed the great views. We drove onto Sawn Mtn and did the organ pipes walk – vg. Did a $115 supermarket shop at Narrabri and went to info centre and got gas with 8c discount (Nov special) – 125.9c/l. $90/66l.
We drove up to Mt Kaputar and took in the lookouts and did a nature walk from the campsite.
Thu 18/11/10 – Warrumbungle’s Nat Park (Camp Blackman - $10) – no power, but power in restroom. 26oC sunny
Got up at 6am and tried to drive to Mt Kaputan summit, but wheelspin meant we got to within 10m of carpark, but after 3 attempts gave up and had to back 400m down the road and turn around. We walked to the top, but it was clouded/misted in.
We did 2 walks with some decent views out to the E/SE, but mist/showers persisted till 1pm when we left.
We did however use the toilets power for me to surf the net/email and K to watch survivor.
We drove back to Narrabrai and onto the Radio Telescope array (26km W of Narrabrai).
It was a very interesting display, inside and out. 6 radio telescopes along a railway line with HQ in Sydney.
We drove onto the Warrumbungle’s stopping at the Whitegum lookout while Karen fought with Telstra to get her phone bar removed (we setup DirDebit from Narrabrai and got bad advice from them to wait till the next bill is due on the 26th before paying the bill. We got to the campground ~ 8pm and Karen still had to fight with 2 more people at Telstra.
Then she rang Mark, followed by Cherie and Cherie took it real bad (not in a +ve headspace at all !).
Fri 19/11/10 – Warrumbungle’s Nat Park – 26oC sunny
Slept in till 8am, catching up on some sleep, cuddles and some loving. I had a mocha, bacon and eggs made with love.
We walked to Park HQ at 10am, going down a swampy + wading water crossing, soon abandoning the path and linking up with the road. We looked at the info centre exhibits and did the interpretative walk.
We walked back to the campground going over a ford and had lunch and recharged the batteries for my laptop + Karen’s exhausted phone (Mark called us again for 1 hr).
We did a 3pm walk to the Fan’s horizon before meeting up with Mark and his sister Ged.
Had the evening in front of the fire that Mark tended from a Cypress Pine fencepost he brought from his farm. Windy and coolish by 5pm onwards.
Sat 20/11/10 – Warrumbungle’s Nat Park (CW -.2/+6.8) – 26oC sunny
Up at 6am and started Grand High Tops walk (960m) + Bluff Mtn (1200m) (not Karen!) – 16.9km. The walk up was lovely along Grand High Tops with the Breadknife + Spire’s. We climbed up along the ridge line and had stupendous views all around with the craggy volcanic rocks incl narrow walls that raised up 50m and were 200m long in places.
We stopped At Grand High Tops and ate, drank and had a rest while admiring the view all around. I took the 1.3km one-way side trip up to Bluff Mtn – a steepish climb with panoramic views from a different angle. The walk down was along a river with med-sized tree’s. The walk lasted 6 hours returning around 1:30pm.
We had a cold shower and lazy afternoon at the campsite watching roo’s, birds and emu’s around the campsite, also enjoying the lovely blue heliotroop flowers (lavender like).
We ran out of gas mid-avo after smelling gas for most of the last day (fine when the gas bottled was filled again on Sun avo).
Had another evening in front of the fire that Mark tended.
Sun 21/11/10 – Dubbo – Poplars Caravan Park $20 – 26oC Mostly Sunny
Up by 7:30am and had b’fast with Mark and Ged using the camp gas BBQ’s (K cooked me bacon and eggs).
We all left around 9am, with us stopping at the dump point (porta-loo) and then went onto the nearby Siding Spring Observatory (Aus/UK optical telescope). We had to wait till 10am for the Observatory to open, so we chatted to a well travelled older couple and the lady was very knowledgeable about the telescopes and many other things around Oz.
The observatory was quite large/technical and impressive, but not outstanding. The info centre at Narrabrai was better.
We started the Burbie Canyon Walk, but it was just a modest river walk (inferior to y’day’s one) and only lasted 5 mins.
We drove 140km onto Dubbo by 2pm. Got TIC info and went out to Bunnings looking for LPG + aerial connector that broker on 1 to 3 connector unit. We then filled up with Diesel ($85) and took in the Japanese Gardens (nice, but no Towoomba).
Back to caravan park by 4pm and got LPG bottle filled ($30 8.5kg – totally empty). The manager was an electrician who told us there would be no probs getting a digital TV with 12V. Though definitely use a 1000W inverter for the laptop. Get it big so you can use many appliances if reqd + they are better quality – must be Sine wave and NOT modified wave.
I then watched TV/computer work while Karen went to supermarket and did washing + took on water and recharged batteries etc since we haven’t had power for 4 nights.
Mon 22/11/10 – Dubbo – Poplars Caravan Park $20 – 26oC Mostly Sunny
NFL, internet and shopping + washing clothes etc.
Walk around the historic part of town – nice old buildings etc...
Tue 23/11/10 – Wellington – Caves Caravan Park $23 – 26oC Mostly Sunny – CW +0.6/+7.35
We bought a “Friends of the Zoo Pass for all Govt Zoo’s – most capital cities except Canberra. $215 for two people.
We left a 9:10am for Dubbo Zoo where we walked the 5km around the Western Plains Zoo. The animals had plenty of space and were mostly separated by water or steep banks of dirt and often electric fences also.
The feature animals was a White Rhino + baby and Great One horned Rhino (like an armoured armadillo), Giraffe’s, Elephants (Asian + African). Lions, Tigers, Otters, Monkeys – incl a command performance from the Siamang ape’s. When a large grouped arrived they turned from quiet/thoughtful monkeys into Wooping/Howling territorial beasts. Apparently they were calling for back up from other like monkeys in the area and secondly using the theory of the more noise the better! We were lucky with the weather as it was overcast until b4 we left the Zoo and then the sun came out in the arvo.
The lemurs were snoozing as were the gibbons in the heat of the day.
We drove onto Wellington, which was a lovely old town with grand buildings and lovely gardens in the main street park + lovely river weir area. Karen bought some supplies while I walked.
The Wellington Cave’s were 8km out of town preceded by a lovely sculpture of steel gurders and tiled murals.
We did the Grand Cave and even though it wasn’t awesome it did have a nice mix of mites/tights incl the feature cathedral (like a big cascade). There were also fossils in the cave. We went 4 levels down and it goes another 4 levels down in crystal clear water incl a really tight “birth canal” entrance.
Wed 24/11/10 – Dunn’s Swamp Nat Park - $10 – 26oC Mostly Sunny – CW +0.2/+7.55
Slept in till 8am after a late night of survivor and top gear etc. I surfed/read the internet finance incl TC weekly.
We moved out of the campground around 10:10am and then checked out the info centre (site history, fossils, limestone formations etc). We then walked thru the parrot cage and onto the fossil walk behind the campground. Nice with coral, folding rock etc mostly.
We drove back thru Wellington and onto the historic gold mining town of Gulgong where we had a quick lunch and I did the highly rated Pioneer museum ($10) while Karen photographed the town and then some shopping.
The museum was much like Blair Athol museum, but I really enjoyed the photos of the town and the telegraph line story (Darwin to Adelaide) and Mel out to Ade and Syd etc.
At Mudgee we spent some time in the TIC incl 1hr free wi-fi. We then went looking in vain for the NPWS office, but settled for the historic train station. Similar to Bathurst and Wellington.
We drove onto Dunn’s Swamp and found it quite busy! A junior school group and two TAFE outdoor course training groups incl the father of a girl who was keen on buying the van. He was also surprised with the price we got for the van – he expected $9-$10. His colleague had some real drama travel stories to tell....
We did a walk around the reedy, dark, sometimes scummy looking river and found some lovely rock formations incl the beehive and other sandstone formations all around. Just before dark I walked in the other direction and found an awesome rocky shoreline (limestone rocks and cliffs). No platypus to be found L.
Karen produced a lovely dinner with plenty of live vege’s and egg and noodle base with avo’s.
Thu 25/11/10 – Katoomba (secret camp on hill above Silent policeman – 25oC Mostly Sunny
Slept in till 8am and went for walk along the beautiful rocky shoreline, climbing and descending as we made our way to the Weir and Long Cave (overhanging sandstone cliffs). The water was lovely and there were plenty of birds, but still no platypus.
We drove on to Blackheath where we had lunch at Evans Lookout before doing the GRAND CANYON walk (2.25hrs) – it was SO lovely I cringed at the thought of leaving Sydney !!!
We went onto Katoomba by 5:30pm and did the Cliffs walk incl the 3 sisters. It also was lovely and at the most beautiful time of day – before sunset. We parked up at our secret spot on the hill and I took in the pre-sunset views below while K cooked dinner and relaxed with a drink.
Fri 26/11/10 – Richmond Club carpark extension - $14 – 29oC Mostly Sunny @ Penrith
We got up by 6:30am and had b’fast at the lookout near campsite and drove onto Wentworth falls where we started the national pass walk at 7:55am. It took us 2.5 hrs taking it nice and slow! Absolutely beautiful waterfalls and bush all around us.
We hit some quite heavy traffic as we passed thru Glenbrook on our way to storageking@penrith where we spent ALL the afternoon packing/unpacking our gear. We got a lot more aggressive on what we were going to have shipped to Perth and even what we were planning to take in the van.
Sat 27/11/10 – Merrylands – side carpark outside WS’s place- free – 29oC Sunny & windy in avo - CW -.65/+7.7
We got moving around 9am and went to Winnabago@Penrith and got rough prices for a bike rack for van ($895 fitted).
A 17” Digi TV (Sphere), which had a DVD, but no USB port or record capability. - $1500 (fitted).
We then went on to Warwicks place and arrived by 11am using the GPS – perfect!
The parking is awesome, only downside is the rail line is immediately next door.... diesel engines are the worst.
Warwick’s apartment is on the 5th floor and is open on 3 sides facing north with a balcony.
We took Warwick + Delma to lunch at a Vietnamese place in Parra – very authentic!!!! $66 for 4 plus fruit drinks.
Sun 28/11/10 – Rockdale Caravan Park (Sheralee) – $37 - 24oC Sunny & windy
We spent the morning with Warwick and Delma to a lesser degree as we were copying movies, music and doing downloads and chatting of course.
We got to Rockdale Caravan park at 2pm (40m trip) and Jacky was waiting as we arrived. We checked in and Karen left the Jacky as soon as the blocks were under the van. I continued to setup and watched the cricket, did internet and cleaned the van. We talked to Wally on his b’day + David, Sandra and Heather.
Mon 29/11/10 – Rockdale Caravan Park (Sheralee) – $37 – 22oC rain until 11am and cleared during avo.
We waited for the showers/rain to stop and eventually headed off at 11am. Due to the weather we abandoned the zoo and caught a train to the city and I went to the Aus Museum and Karen to catchup with 2 lots of friends. The Museum was v.g, with a large Abo, Mineral, Dinosaur, insect/spider, Aus natives sections - $10.
We met a the quay at for the 2:45pm ferry to the Taronga Zoo ($43 entry! We used our friends of the zoo pass....)
1h:45m was not enough to do the lot, so we scrambled around and saw the best of the zoo esp the Tigers, Lions, gorillas esp the silverback (twice the size of the rest – it was an edgy grounp!), Chimps grooming, penguins, seals, and reptiles.
The ferry over was $10. The train was $5.40.
Tue 30/11/10 – Rockdale Caravan Park (Sheralee) – $37 – 22oC – scattered showers. CW -0.35/+7.3
Karen up at 6:15am and me soon after. She left at 8am before the rains and went to Shannon’s and I opened letters etc and watched the rest of the NFL game. I did more internet stuff and setup my bike which I rode in showers to Bondi Junction (and got pretty wet) to see Bruce & do some errands incl buying an inverter – 380W Pure Sine wave for $225 from Jaycar. The reversing camera is quite a lot more involved....
I rode back to Les & Michelle’s place to see them esp Michelle after her knee reconstruction a week ago.
I then rode back to Rockdale and onto Brighton Le Sands along the shoreline bike path all the way to the Tom Ugly bridge – really nice! Weather is pretty stable by now – just a skerrick of sunlight. Home for Top Gear, Richard Hammonds “Invisible World” + Survivor,
Wed 01/12/10 – Rockdale Caravan Park (Sheralee) – $37 – 22oC – scattered showers. CW +1.3/+8.6
It rained most of the day until 2pm. Karen managed to get out, to go to lunch with friends and Shannon later for an acupuncture session. I went to the dentist for a 2:30pm appointment.
I got some fruit and veg from Paddies market after walking along the side of Darling hbr.
We both got home around the same time as Karen was having trouble walking after her acupuncture session.
We walked around the caravan park for the 1st time and then I did the washing and Karen did the drying using the caravan park machines - $2.20 ea. Normally $4 each!!!
Caught up on TV recording and prepared for our trip to the accountant tomorrow as well as back to the storage facility.
Thu 02/12/10 – Richmond Club carpark – $10 - 26oC – scattered showers. CW +1.2/+9.8
After going to bed at 2am after setting up some ASX trades on CSV, SWK + API for the SMSF + LYC & SRX for KP. I also looked into US trades but was too tired.
We got up at 8:30am and left Rockdale at 9:45am and drove out to see Zhong Li + Prashant (partner) at Rydalmere (UCS Tax Services) – it took 36m/29km using the M5 East freeway + King Georges (3) and M4 to Silverwater Rd, then out Victoria Rd to Euston St. We had a 1hr mtg and then I chased up my pay with DHL – will be paid on Tues according to Hamid@dhl.
We then drove 38km/45m to the Richmond club. The camping booking system didn’t reflect the # of vans in the park, so it took a while to get a spot sorted.
Met Dan Wallbank (RV repairs etc) and bought $420 worth of LED lights for van. $35ea – regulated LEDs from Cree (best in mkt and last heaps longer as have a regulator that handles voltage variations without even flickering). Prev the halogen lights used 21W ea as did the overhead lights. Also got the outdoor light done as it could be turned on by anyone passing by.
